This year at Dorplex, we committed to holding ourselves to a higher standard throughout all aspects of our business. We started by implementing our partnership with Red Door Family Shelter, donating a portion of each door sold to their amazing organization. Another one of our goals for this year was to reduce our carbon footprint, and we are thrilled to announce that we have switched from solvent-based to water-based paints on all of our entry systems.

Why We’re Switching

Switching to water-based paints has been an enormous undertaking that has taken almost a year to bring to fruition. Not only do water-based paints require a completely different application process, but we had to find the right paint that maintained the quality and range of colours that our customers have always expected of us.

The Difference Between Solvent & Water Based Paint

Solvent-based paints have been an industry standard for decades. Simply put, solvent-based paints have a chemical solvent ( the agent that allows for it to be the right consistency and viscosity). This means that water-based paints have a much lower chemical profile and the absence of that particularly unpleasant chemical paint smell, which can linger for quite some time.

The Benefits of Water-Based Paint

  • Water-based paints are adaptable and have superior adhesion to solvent-based paints
  • Nicks and scratches are much easier to repair on entry systems with water-based paint, and as a bonus, the paint will come off your brush much more easily when repairs are being done.
  • Water-based paints dry faster and harder for a better longer lasting finish.
